After 18 months of Nodes of the Moon transiting through Pisces and Virgo, the axis of healing, service, routines, subconscious, isolation, selectivity and trust, they entered the signs of Leo and Aquarius on July 26th, 2026 and will stay here till March 26th, 2028.
Leo and Aquarius are the axis of love, romance, ego, selfhood, humanity, gains, ideological pursuits, community and belonging. There is something terrifying about coming out of the depths and isolation of the world you have created into one where the task is all about fitting your “little world” into the grand scheme of things, into the web of complex human relationships, with all the fears and desires that come with that. Before I go on talking about the specifics of this Nodal shift and the chain of events it might bring through the series of Eclipses, let’s try to get on the same page on what the Nodes of the Moon - The North Node (Rahu - head of the dragon) and South Node (Ketu - tail of the dragon) are.

Meaning behind the Nodes.
First things first, Nodes of the Moon are not pointing to who you are or your identity, they are more like a push/pull dynamic in your chart. The energy of the South Node - Ketu, which is often described as something we have to leave behind or discard as irrelevant, needs to be reframed. South Node is a necessary foundation for us to be able to move towards North Node wholesomely, they are two sides of the same coin, without one another cannot be complete. South Node is your default mechanism, it is something that comes naturally and also something you can feel bitter about due to being stuck there. In Vedic astrology South Node is considered to be a spiritual point, because it releases, drains and empties. And emptiness is a pre-requisite for a spiritual knowledge landing within you. We retreat to the South node when we feel scared, tired or oversaturated with the pursuit of the North Node. When we are ready to be emptied out we return to our South Node.

The North Node is a material and a hungry point, it is made of desire, it is also heavily associated with fear, because we might feel a lack of control or be intuitively aware of the devouring nature of the North Node. North Nodes hunger in itself is not a bad thing, but this hunger left unchecked can result in either insatiability if we let it consume us, or in the lost path if we try to resist the North Node altogether. North Node is ultimately a lesson of temperance and humility, but not avoidance and rejection of the lessons it provides. Remember your North Node is not who you are, and not even something you can consciously move towards in my opinion, it is a very strong pull through which you learn something alien to your system. And you always get things wrong initially on this North Node learning path. North Node, just like a South Node is neither good nor bad, it is a balancing point for your soul’s evolution. Left unchecked we can become either slaves to our past patterns or become blindly consumed with the potential that the future holds.
Nodes of the Moon changing signs is a divinely guided opportunity to align with the patterns that run deeply through the ages, not just our lives. The lessons we refuse to learn, the truths we refuse to accept and the growth we dim unnecessary can quickly come back in a very karmic manner. Understanding the Nodal placements in one’s chart is a lifelong journey. Unraveling the connection, similarity and difference between the Nodes of the Moon is like walking on invisible thread, back and forth, learning the art of embracing and letting go, hunger and emptiness, withdrawing and being consumed with desire.
Nodal Timeline and Cycles
The movement of the Nodes is related to Eclipse cycles. When the Sun is within the 18º degrees orb of the Nodes at the time of the Full Moon or New Moon we have Eclipses. And the closer the Sun to the Nodes the stronger that Eclipse is. The Eclipse cycle is about 18.5 years, so the last time we had a North Node in Aquarius and South Node in Leo was from 2007 to 2009. What was happening in your life back then? But also, maybe connect it to the events that took place in your life in 2017 and 2018, because it is the last time we had Eclipses in Leo and Aquarius, with the Nodes in reverse position to the current one.
Another thing about Eclipses is that they come in clusters called Saros Cycles, and each one of the Saros cycles is roughly 1300 years. So the energy and themes of the very first Eclipse in each Saros Cycle will inform all the following Eclipses for a very long time. The reason I am sharing this is for you to understand that each Eclipse is a part of the story much longer than one lifetime can explain.

August 2nd, 2027 - New Moon Solar Eclipse at 10º of Leo
August 17th, 2027 - Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at 24º of Aquarius
January 26th, 2028 - New Moon Solar Eclipse at 6º of Aquarius
Now look at the degrees listed above and check if you have significant planets or points within the 4º degree orbit of these degrees in Fixed Signs ( Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius). If you do have those degrees activated, that Eclipse becomes much more personal for you.
And now let’s unpack the specifics of South Node in Leo and North Node in Aquarius.
South Node in Leo
Leo is a fixed fire sign, ruled by the Sun. It is associated with the light, our heart, it is connected to children, our childhood and inner child, leaders and kings, joys that have to do with pursuing what you love, creation, risks, romance, visibility, ego, gambling and anything that translates your core essence into the outer world. The Leo house + Sun ruled house in your chart speaks about the path your spirit expresses itself through. With South Node transiting through Leo in the next 18 months, we need to apply the South Node (described earlier) principles to our Leo house. Something that is not authentic, outdated, contaminated and spiritually misaligned will be drained out of that house. Because South Node deals with the past, something significant can return into your life and have a whole new iteration. It can range from forgotten interests, hobbies that you had as a young person, dreams that meant a lot to you, or it can be an opportunity, a person or a circumstance. Whichever scenario plays out for you, the underlying reason is the need to return to the truth of your Leo house, to excavate and reconnect to your unique path. Because there is no way we can wholesomely move towards the North Node in Aquarius, without dealing with our Leo house and Natal Sun sign placement first.
South Node in Leo wants to empty out something about our sense of self, and our relationship to the concept of ego is a big one here. The ego wound is one of the most misunderstood ailments in the world. It is ultimately a sickness of the heart. This ailment is a spectrum, and the pendulum swings from inflated, ravenous ego, which doesn’t know fulfillment or satisfaction to the one that is trying to reject ego altogether, to be spiritually elevated, unattached and sacrificial, but often that is just another face of a ravenous ego, the mask upon mask. Have you heard the saying that the biggest ego trip is trying to get rid of the ego?
Everything has capacity and resonance, this South Node in Leo transit is going to make it very clear where there is resonance in our life and how our capacity to do what matters has been compromised by ignoring that resonance. Especially with Jupiter transiting Leo, the heart pleads for integrity to its essence, and it starts with lessening something, with being honest about our hearts capacity. We need to walk this path, it is an action that holds answers, no mental or spiritual gymnastics can get us there.
North Node in Aquarius
The Aquarius is a fixed air sign ruled by Saturn. It needs spaciousness to function properly. It is associated with the future timelines, large organizations and groups, systems and discontent with the systems, collective ideology, corporations, NGOs, political parties, tech and AI, innovation, single mindedness that leads to totalitarianism, electricity, nervous system and neural pathways, space travel, need to belong to something larger than oneself, revolution, chaos, large gains and purpose. If Leo is love for the self and love in a more personal and familiar way, like a romantic one, then Aquarius is love for humanity, a more abstract and detached form of love. If Leo is about belonging to oneself, then Aquarius is belonging to an idea, an ideology. And one form of love or belonging completely loses the point without the other. No one can sustainably serve a larger collective and pursue freedom for all if they do not know how to sustain their own heart, if they do not have a healthy relationship to their ego.
Pluto is co-present with the North Node here, and all the Aquarius/Leo Eclipses are going to have pronounced Plutonian influence. Pluto demands transformation of our understanding of collective power. The Aquarius North node is not concerned with acceptance or validation, it demands your individual evolution and correct application of what is gifted to you, your talents are not yours to keep to yourself. The light is provided in the Leo part of the chart, the effort and devotion to that light is exercised in the Aquarius part of the chart.
North Node in Aquarius with South Node in Leo is a final transfer of power, and change in the mode of control over our reality. For the last 80 plus years power was centered around a charismatic leader, very hollywood coded and had a clear hierarchy, now it is heading towards tech centered, decentralized and not obvious, but seriously militant structure. The attempt is to override the human in us, it is done through inevitability narratives, through devaluation of individual vision and the normalization of self sacrifice. If we do not hold on to the Leo house, the dehumanization of our psyche is inevitable.
North Node lessons are always learnt through making a ton of mistakes, in Aquarius they are collective, they are more consequential. North Node can be insatiable and often works in extremes. The two extremes of Aquarius are chaos and control. Watch how the dynamic of chaos and control shows up in your life. How you simultaneously are drawn to both, work with this tension within, so it cannot be worked on you from without.
Sun and Saturn are a ruling pair of this Eclipse cycle. They are the two archetypes we’ll have to get very familiar with. Our light, talents, ego, self perception and devotion, discipline, vision, steadfastness. What do we do with what is provided to us in this life?
